From their awkward public encounters to unconventional long distance living arrangements, Melania and Donald Trump’s relationship has continued to fascinate us all.
As Melania steadfastly continues to live in Trump Towers in New York, while her husband bunkers down at the White House, the few times the couple are seen together are often shrouded in controversy.
Case in point when Melania was seen 'shuddering' at her husband's touch at a rally earlier this year, or the POTUS awkwardly dropping his wife’s hand when faced with a media scrum at Palm Beach airport in February.
Even the very first time the couple met wasn’t exactly love at first sight when they spotted each other at a Fashion Week party in 1998… which Trump attended with another supermodel.
But clearly there’s something that makes these two tick – and now Melania’s oldest friend has revealed exactly what that is.
The First Lady’s school friend Vladimira Tomšič explains there’s actually something very simple behind the success of their near 12-year marriage.
“The secret of why he’s with her is her traditional values and the importance of family to her," Vladimira told the Express.
Melania’s parents Viktor and Amalija Knavs are still very close to their daughter, with GQ reporting they live near Trump Tower where Melania currently resides.
Melania and Donald’s son Barron also speaks Slovenian so he can better communicate with his grandparents.
Vladimira isn’t the only friend of Melania’s who has come out in support of the high-profile relationship.
Karen LeFrak is the wife of property developer Richard LeFrak, who has been one of the President’s close friends for years.
“Mrs. Trump is enjoying her life and new role,” Karen told the Washington Post back in March.
“[She and Donald] are very happy! Their relationship is great,” she revealed. “All these rabid rumours about her and their relationship are laughable and fictional.”
