Carter Wilkerson became an internet sensation at the start of the month when he sent a tweet to popular US fast food joint Wendy’s pleading with them to fulfill his need for the fried treats on the daily.

Wendy’s replied telling Carter he needed 18 million retweets and his wish would be their command, to which he replied: “Consider it done”.

And while Ellen DeGeneres currently holds the most retweets title for her selfie at the 2014 Oscars, the 16-year-old is hot on her heels to snatch her crown from her, already garnering 3.2 million retweets.

Ellen’s snap currently has 3.4 million retweets, meaning Carter is only 200,000 behind the star but still a cool 14.8 million retweets away from his 18 million goal.

The Nevada teen appeared on Sunrise this morning to talk about how his online campaign is going and why he just can’t get enough of chicken nuggets in his life.

“It started as a joke, and took off, and is now it’s up to 3.1 million in two weeks,” Carter said.

“Who would have thought a 16- year-old with no followers is the second most retweeted of all time.”

When Carter was asked if he was paid by Wendy’s to promote the brand in such a way, he denied it completely.

“I assure you it’s definitely not a publicity stunt. I just wanted some chicken nuggets and they responded,” he said.

“They said if I do end up getting to Ellen’s retweet record they’ll help by donating $100,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.”

However Ellen isn’t willing to give up her retweet crown just yet and even enlisted the help of Bradley Cooper to come on her show to keep people liking their Oscars photo.
