RuPaul believes being a "black drag queen" has enabled him to make it on Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world.

The 'RuPaul's Drag Race' judge has made waves in the entertainment industry by openly dressing up in feminine attire and mastering how to walk in stiletto shoes, much to supermodel Naomi Campbell's amazement.

The 56-year-old star believes breaking the industry is a struggle for anyone, but it has been particularly difficult for him.

Speaking to Times magazine, he said: "Drag has always served a purpose. We mock identity. We are shape shifters. We are God in drag. That is our role, to remind people of that.

"It's tough for anyone in showbiz, but add to that a black drag queen."
