While pictures of naked pregnant bellies are commonplace, a young American couple have taken the concept to a whole new level by having an image of their unborn child sketched onto the woman’s belly.

The image, which was initially posted on the blog Awkward Family Photos, has since been shared more than 39,000 times on Facebook.

Response to the picture has been mixed, with some visitors to the site dismissing It as tacky and criticising everything from the woman’s choice of clothing in the photo to the position of the baby in the drawing.

'Awkward indeed,' comments Rita Lemon Parker. 'What’s up with the yellow undies and shirtless dad-to-be? I think this may be more creepy than awkward.'

'Wonder why she hasn’t given birth yet? That kid looks at least 6 years old with a school haircut,' asks Jane.

But while the general consensus seems to be that the photo is ‘creepy’ and ‘gross’, it has found a few supporters.

'I personally think this is an awesome pic,' comments CamoChick. 'I think it could have been more tastefully done (in clothes) but I like it.'

And from Alba: 'You guys are harsh. Their trip is to draw the baby inside the womb so that he /she can be part of the pic too, even if unborn. Not too shabby, not too shabby… Not so sure about the yellow lingerie, but each to their own!'
