Floss, smile – but not too much – and take up ballroom dancing to live until you’re old and grey!

1 Find nice workmates. A study of workers’ health records found a lack of emotional support at work led to a 140 per cent increased risk of dying in the next 20 years.

2 Floss your teeth. Daily flossing has been found to extend your lifespan by 6.4 years as it helps to prevent gum disease, which is linked to cardiovascular disease.

3 Take up ballroom dancing. Brain experts claim ballroom dancing helps prevent Alzheimer’s disease, as it requires the exercising of unusual parts of the brain.

4 Eat chocolate and drink red wine. Both contain antioxidants to improve health and extend your life. Enjoy in moderation.

5 Don’t be too cheerful. An eight-decade long study found overly optimistic people tend to take more risks than their more serious peers and thus lived shorter lives.
