The look: A low side part
Why it's hot now: After a few seasons of sharp centre parts, a sexy, side-swept look is gaining momentum once again. "Low side parts work so well because of the volume they create on one side that looks sexy, but with a slight edge," explains Brad Ngata, of Brad Ngata Hair Direction, Sydney. And the best bit? "A side part suits all hair types – just let it fall naturally and leave it a little messy to avoid severe partings."
How to do it: First, apply mousse to damp locks, then comb it through and part your hair. "Blow-dry your hair and, when drying the part area, direct the airflow of the dryer downwards to 'set' the part in place," says Ngata. He suggests smoothing fly-aways with a light silicone spray or serum that will protect and add shine to your strands. "By preparing your part in this way, you'll achieve lasting hold, and it will give you the option of wearing your hair up or down while feeling secure the parting will stay put," he explains.
What you'll need: Keep things in place with a styling mousse, like Schwarzkopf Taft Styling Mousse, $3.50, and seal the deal with TIGI Bed Head Some Like It Hot Heat & Humidity Resistant Serum, $29.95.
