DEFINITION
Botanical name - Commiphora myrrha.
This essential oil is extracted from the Gum Resin by steam distillation.
DESCRIPTION
It is said that no soldier of Ancient Greece went into battle without a paste of Myrrh his pouch.
This valuable thick red oil, with its earthy tone is reminiscent of the African sun. Myrrh's smoky desert aroma is a Base Note.
APPLICATIONS
INFECTION INHIBITOR - Myrrh is invaluable in the topical treatment of skin lesions, slow healing wounds and ringworm. Dilute as directed and use DIRECT APPLICATION to the inflamed area.
ANTISEPTIC - 1 drop of Myrrh in half a glass of water makes an excellent antiseptic MOUTHWASH for ulcers, gingivitis and strengthens spongy gums.
DRYING - Myrrh is a powerful pulmonary agent. Assists in relieving the inflammation of sore throats, and brings temporary relief to the symptoms of coughs and colds. Use in a VAPOURISATION or in a MASSAGE OIL BLEND and massage the back, chest and throat.
ASTRINGENT - Toning and tightening Myrrh provides temporary relief of the discomfort of haemorrhoids. Use a MASSAGE OIL BLEND of 5 drops Myrrh to 10ml (1/3 fl oz) Hypericum oil and apply directly to the affected area. If symptoms persist, consult a medical practitioner.
DO NOT USE DURING PREGNANCY.
IF POISONING OCCURS, SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. IF SWALLOWED, DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. GIVE A GLASS OF WATER.
