Gather your supplies
Sharp pair of scissors; controlled-release fertiliser or manure pellets; dolomite (optional)
Here's How
Step 1 Using the scissors, carefully cut off every leaf from the tree, leaving only the leaf stem. Instantly, you've re-created a winter bonsai tree.
TIP: Your bonsai tree should be in good condition before you begin, except for the scorched or dehydrated foliage.
Step 2 The next step is to stimulate a new flush of 'spring' growth, by feeding your plant. Any controlled-release or pelletised-manure plant foods can do the job. If your bonsai is in a pine bark-based potting mix, apply a dose of dolomite as well.
Step 3 Now, water your bonsai and place it in the sunniest available position. In a matter of days or weeks, glorious, pristine new foliage will emerge, re-creating spring in the middle of a hot Australian summer.
