Spoil your mum on Mother's Day

Apr 17 11:20am
Flowers and chocolates are always a wonderful surprise, but for something a little different this Mother’s Day we find some new ways to spoil your mum this Mother’s Day.

It is said that the origins of Mother’s Day are based on ancient Greek festivals honoring Rhea, the wife of Cronus and Mother of the Gods. And in ancient Rome, a mother Goddess Cybele was worshipped as early as 250BC. These days though, we just think it's always nice to thank your mum for doing such a great job of bringing you up!

  • Do her washing and clean her house – chances are your mum has had to put up with you making a mess of the family home your whole childhood… now you get a chance to make amends and treat her to a whole-house tidy up. If you want to splurge without expending any energy, you could hire her a cleaner for a day.
  • Pamper her – what hard-working and not thanked enough mum wouldn’t love to be pampered. Whether it be a facial, a massage, a new hair-style or even a makeover, mums always love beauty treats that make them feel good about themselves.
  • Make her breakfast, high tea, lunch or dinner – or flag cooking and take her out for a meal. Again, think of all those healthy meals your mum made for you when you were a kid, only to have you refuse to eat your greens. What better way to thank her than over a nice meal when you can show her that you finally eat your greens!
  • Organise a surprise visit… If your mum lives far away or you rarely get to see her, make plans now to visit her for the Mother’s Day weekend. Just make sure she is actually home that weekend – and if you can’t make it a surprise, then make a planned visit.
  • Botanical gardens – Just because mums enjoy flowers, doesn’t mean they want to have them in their house – mum’s with a passion for gardening will love a trip to the botanical gardens to admire the greenery. Follow a walk around the gardens with a trip to a café for an afternoon tea.
  • Throw a Mother’s Day party for your mum, your friends and their mothers. Get everyone to bring a plate so it’s not too much work for any one person and you’ve got a simple and fun girlie get together for Sunday. Because girls never really grow up!
