As she nears the end of her losing battle against cancer, Farrah Fawcett has been dealt a cruel blow by her long-time love Ryan O'Neal.
A devastated Farrah, 62, is struggling to cope with sexual harassment allegations aimed at Ryan, 68. The man who Farrah says is the love of her life has been accused of being a sex pest by a 20-year-old.
According to sources, Farrah was deeply upset to learn that Dania Marin has filed for a temporary restraining order against the once dashing actor. The court is yet to grant the order, which would ban Ryan from coming within 50 metres of her. However, the Charlie's Angels star is grappling with the fact that if the claims prove to be true, her belief that Ryan had changed his womanising ways may be a lie.
Until now, Ryan has been Farrah's rock during her illness, and now that her treatment has ended and she's bedridden and fed intravenously, she's relying on him more than ever.
However, if the allegations prove to be true, friends says she'll no longer turn to him for comfort and support.
Allegations
Dania says Ryan called her earlier this month and asked her to engage in foreplay with him.
‘He offered me a car if I would engage with him,' she says. ‘I filed the order because I was afraid that he knew where I lived. He freaked me out. He's old enough to be my grandfather.'
On top of this, photos have emerged of Ryan walking along the beach with his arm around another woman.
It's a sad twist of fate for Farrah, who first got together with Ryan in 1979 and had their son Redmond in 1985.
For years she was apart from the man she truly loved, but troubled Ryan reconnected with her following her diagnosis with anal cancer in September 2006, and the pair has been almost inseparable since.
Dania's claims come just days after Ryan declared that he can't live without the love of his life, and appeared in a US TV documentary called Farrah's Story, about his partner's illness.
‘In the last two years, I loved her more than I've ever loved her,' Ryan said on the show. ‘She's so much more of a woman; powerful, courageous, fearless. I look at her with awe.'
The couple's real-life love story reads like a movie script in which, until now, romance has prevailed over separation, drug addiction and disease.
In 2006 Ryan said, ‘We've had our ups and downs, but I was the first person she called when she was diagnosed. I've loved her for 25 years, and she knows that.'
Two months later, Farrah believed she had won her battle, and wrote on her website, ‘The hardest part is over.' Sadly, it was not to be, and the cancer returned with a vengeance. Close friend, producer Craig Nevius, says Farrah was devastated.
‘The fact that it recurred after all that she went through was heartbreaking,' he says. ‘And then, as is her way, she became much stronger and started dealing with it.'
Farrah's strength in the face of death has left an indelible impression on Ryan.
‘The news started to get darker and darker,' he says. ‘The hope started to fade. But not for Farrah. She continued fighting. There was always a courage there, and a quiet dignity. I fell in love with her all over again because of how she handled this.
‘I don't know what I'll do without her,' he adds. ‘I won't know this world without her.'
However, friends say Ryan's bad behaviour and his track record of flirtations with other women and battles with drugs will be playing on Farrah's mind.
Family problems
The former pin-up
and her soulmate have overcome many hurdles in their relationship. After
Redmond's birth, Farrah, who never married Ryan, raised his children from his two marriages, Patrick, now 41, Griffin, 44, and Tatum O'Neal, 45, as her own. The pair split
in 1997 amid much animosity.
Six months before they reunited, Farrah publicly blamed her then-estranged partner for introducing their son Redmond to drugs. In September last year, father and son were charged with possession of methamphetamine after an early-morning police raid on their Malibu home.
Redmond, 24, has been a constant source of heartache for the couple. At age 15, he was expelled from school for marijuana possession, and at 17 he was arrested for forgery. A judge sent him to rehab, but after a staggering 14 spells in drug clinics for addictions to narcotics, he's still battling to get clean.
In February 2007, Ryan was also arrested after a bitter row with elder son. Griffin was attempting to keep his troubled half-brother off drugs by chaining him up, and this enraged Ryan so much he allegedly attacked his elder son and his pregnant girlfriend with a fireplace poker.
Sadly, Redmond isn't able to be at his mother's bedside as her life ebbs away. In jail on drugs charges, he was allowed only a few hours with her last month.
‘Redmond told Farrah he's so sorry he got himself into this mess just when she needs him most,' a source says. ‘That meant a lot to her.'
You will always be a charlies angel in my mind.
may God look after you
