High Five

These simple tips will have you looking good, feeling great and living longer - with very little effort.

5 Ways to treat nausea

1. Grab some ginger
Put aside your scepticism and reach for ginger for an upset stomach. Ginger beer, ginger tea or fresh ginger can all help - and can be soothing when you're hung over.
2. Skip soda
As much as you love fizzy drinks such as cola and lemonade, they can worsen your nausea by causing bloating.
3. Choose carbohydrates
Carbohydrates such as bread, pasta or potatoes will help settle your stomach.
4. Just breathe
To calm a queasy stomach, breathe in slowly through your nose and out through your mouth.
5. Motion and oceans
Try anti-sickness pressure bands around your wrists or anti-nausea pills from the chemist.

5 Ways to soothe back pain

1. Bathing beauty
Unwind, relax the muscles and ease pain by having a warm bath. 2. It's a stretch
Stretch your muscles by lying on your back, with your knees into your chest. Rock from side to side.
3. Pill power
For severe pain, speak with your pharmacist about using anti-inflammatory tablets.
4. Flat out
Your bed may be aggravating your back. Consider switching to a chiropractic-approved mattress.
5. Keep moving
Back pain is often worse if you've been sitting or lying for long periods, so staying active can help.

5 ways to treat insomnia

1. Relaxation haven
Set up your room as the ideal sleeping sanctuary. It should be warm, dark, quiet and comfy. Do not use your bed for studying or working.
2. The good oil
Essential oils such as lavender are ideal for relaxing. Add a few drops to a warm bath before bed.
3. No napping
Avoid the urge to sleep during the day, even if you are exhausted. This will mess up your sleep cycle and you will struggle to sleep at night.
4. Time for bed
Go to bed at the same time every night. Having a stable routine is vital. If you try to go to bed earlier, your body won't be in the right zone for sleep.
5. Caffeine control
Even though you might rely on it to keep you awake during the day, drinking coffee in the late afternoon or evening is a no-no. Similarly, steer clear of stimulants such as chocolate.

5 ways to get shiny skin and hair

1. Fresh is best
Choose a diet high in fruit, vegetables and oily fish such as mackerel. Another good reason to eat healthily!
2. Dear dairy
Keep skin and hair healthy with calcium from cheese, yoghurt or milk. This vital mineral is also found in fish and cereals.
3. Drink up
We all know how important it is to drink water, and it has benefits for skin and hair too. If you exercise a lot, you should be drinking even more than the recommended two litres a day.
4. Butt out
Smoking not only causes wrinkles, it makes hair smell as well. Time to abandon this poisonous habit once and for all!
5. Be a scrubber
Remove dead skin cells from your body every day by using a gentle exfoliant or scrub. Alternatively, use an exfoliation glove in the shower.

5 ways to live longer

1. Live and love
A UK study found fewer artery blockages in the hearts of people who felt well loved. Happy people could live up to seven years longer than people who are depressed.
2. Sleep more
It's a struggle most days to get enough sleep but getting fewer than five hours on a regular basis results in higher levels of fibrinogen - a blood-clotting protein that can slow the blood flow to your heart.
3. Make time for tea
Studies show tea drinkers are 28 per cent more likely to survive a heart attack because of its antioxidants.
4. Laugh out loud
Lots Laughter reduces stress and boosts pain-killing as well as lowering blood pressure.
5. Flash pearly whites
Clean teeth may reduce the chance of a heart attack or a stroke as it's thought gum disease may damage arteries.
