I would be lying if I said that I'd mastered the art of packing lightly. In fact, I constantly suffer from "Just In Case Syndrome" (or JICS). Every time I pack to go away I have the same conversation with myself, "Oh, I better pack that raincoat, extra pair of shoes, running gear etc, just in case it hails, my old shoes fall apart or I miraculously decide to get motivated in the middle of New York and go for a run." In retrospect, I know it's insane but something takes hold while I'm filling my suitcase with goodies that I know will never be worn.

While I am trying to kick the habit when it comes to unnecessary wearables, there is one part of my suitcase that will never be reduced...my beauty bag. I make no apologies for this, after all, a part of my job description is to try as many cosmetics as possible, and what better time to do it than on holidays in America - right? My poor boyfriend questions my theory when he's lugging my bag around the airport, but this is secret women's business after all.

My bag however, does not thank me for my poor packing ability. Weighing in at 29.9kg's I was lucky it was even allowed on the flight. And thanks to those pesky new laws that don't allow you to take anything worthwhile on board with you, most of that 29.9kg weight was due to my overflowing vanity case.

However, there is one secret I learned before I left that made the world of difference. Almost all my favourite brands are doing travel size products that pack neatly into your bag, allowing you the space for everything from moisturiser to manicure equipment. Make life easier and try and get smaller sized products to save space, otherwise look for those great plastic bottles that allow you to fill them with your favourite product and travel lightly.
