Diet Diva BMI Calculator

The body mass index (BMI) is the most commonly used method to measure obesity. It's easy to calculate your BMI using your weight and height on the table below.

The closer your weight is to the normal range on the table, the less likely you are to suffer from weight-related problems.

If you are in the overweight or obese range on the BMI table, talk to your doctor about ways to improve your health by losing weight.

In fact a BMI of 18-20 in considered underweight and less than 18 extremely underweight.

This BMI calculator seems inaccurate. Perhaps its been tampered with to make people feel unhealthier than they are, thus inclining them to perchase the diet orientated issue of famous magazine? Just a thought.

I dont know what the other two on this page are on about, but i went and saw a doctor regarding my BMI and he said that it was 20 and i just looked on this chart closest to my weight and height and it has 21 so i believe the people in this magazine were correct when creating this chart. Famous rocks if you have a problem with it, dont read it!

Lets just have a look at what five min of research can teach us all.... because i was a bit upset with my out come aswell
WHO (World Health Organization) states on there website http://www.euro.who.int/nutrition/2 0030507_1 the following...

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a tool for indicating weight status in ADULTS. It is defined as the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in metres (kg/m2). For example, an adult who weighs 70kg and whose height is 1.75m will have a BMI of 22.9
5. her0xme - Jan 24 09:26pm
For adults over 20 years old, BMI falls into one of the following categories:

BMI Weight Status
Below 18.5 Underweight
18.5 - 24.9 Normal
25.0 - 29.9 Pre-obese
30.0 - 39.9 Obese
Above 40 Very obese

Pretty spot on... have a think about it... why would they publish a missleading BMI Chart, when anyone can find out for themself with a simple BMI search in Google!? There a magazine, what would happen if - lil rich girl living by the seaside with daddy as a lawyer- went to mummy and said "my magazine said i was fat" think about the field day some people with to much money would have with that.... thats my rant and rave over with, if you don't like it, don't read it!

My BMI is 18!!!!!! I've always been skinny and slim though, and I eat normally. My BMI used to be 17 but everyone thought I had some sort of an ED or something which I did not.

In my opinion, this chart is quite accurate considering it's jumping 9kg to every next level. My BMI is 21 and I'm okay about it, but I've been thinking how can doctor and charts like these estimate the BMI level of an athlete? They're in great shape, probably looking thin and healthy but according to this they would be seen as over weighted? Hello! I say forget the scales and look at urself in the mirror and if u like it, be happy!!

This chart might work for the ladies, but the men (and some ladies) that go to the gym and have alot of muscle mass will weigh more without having much body fat, resulting in a higher BMI when they are not over weight.

I agree with Dave... the BMI chart is a good guide but it's not the only measurement you should go by. My BMI is 24 which is at the heavier end of the scale, yet my body fat percentage is less than 14% which is considered very lean for a female.
As Saila said - it's often best to forget the scales for a while and concentrate on feeling fit, stong and positive!
