DEFINITION

After Shave Lotion are lotions which are used on the skin after shaving. Removing hair from the skin is called shaving. There are several ways to do this including using a blade razor or an electric razor. The lotion is used to help heal any small cuts on the skin, leave a pleasant perfume while at the same time soothing the skin. For men, the most shaved area is the face although athletes often shave their legs. Shaving for many men is a daily ritual or for men who have a heavy growth of hair, twice a day is necessary. Many women also shave off unwanted hair on their legs and in the arm pits. Not every woman in the world does this particularly the women in certain countries in Europe.
Remember there are several ways of removing unwanted hair and shaving is only one method.

There are many types of After Shave Lotions on the market. Water is used to first rinse the face and might be considered the primary After Shave Lotion. There are many types of commercial lotions available which the makers claim are the best. Some have astringent properties which close the pores of the skin. Other are used to soothe the skin while others have a perfume included which may or may not be considered attractive to the opposite sex.

Here are two classes of After Shave Lotions.

1 EAU DE COLOGNE
Although a light form of fragrance, Eau de Cologne has more concentration of perfume oils than After Shave Lotion or Emulsion.
Eau de Cologne should be applied liberally to the neck, shoulders and torso after showering to give a subtle yet lasting fragrance.

2. AFTER SHAVE LOTION
After Shave Lotion helps tone the skin while its antiseptic ingredients help combat infection caused by razor nicks.
After Shave Lotion is a lighter version of a man's Eau de Cologne containing a higher ratio of alcohol to essence oils.
It is applied by splashing over the face after shaving.
